The World-Spirit is the mind of the planet itself: the oldest and deepest dungeon. Its mind extends through mana currents, fault lines, crystal strata, oceans, volcanoes, ancient dungeon networks, and the life between them. The geological core is where that mind is densest. There is no jewel waiting at the planet’s geometric centre.

Religious traditions encounter different aspects of this being and give them different names: Earth Mother, Deep Father, Sleeping Queen, World Serpent, Foundation, First Mountain, or Buried God. Those names reflect particular encounters. Rites to the Earth Mother follow soil and season. Foundation cults attend to bearing stone. Stories of the Sleeping Queen preserve dreams separated by generations.

Timescales

A planetary mind may act at speeds its inhabitants struggle to recognize. An earthquake may be a reflex. A cave system closing over decades may resemble a wound healing into scar tissue. Monster migrations and mana storms may follow the shorter rhythms of fever or defence. Some changes outlast the cultures that observe them.

These possible connections have not been publicly demonstrated as the activity of one mind. Dwarven deep surveys have found correlations that their institutions struggle to explain. Elven and orcish traditions preserve accounts of older encounters, but much of that material is excluded from industrial evidence.

The present danger

The current crisis has more than one possible explanation. Injury may be spreading through nested systems: local dungeons that participate in larger magical ecologies. Or an ancient organism may be beginning to notice the machine-shaped pattern growing through its upper layers.

Its first coherent response could be speech or an act of defence. It could also be a change so slow that the makers of those machines fail to recognize it as an answer.
